If you need help, you are never a bother!  The Never a Bother campaign aims to prevent youth suicide by letting every young person know they are valued and supported.  More than 400 young Californians, including a youth advisory board and representatives from 34 community-based organizations and tribal entities, help shape Never a Bother.

Their experiences and insights created a campaign rooted in real-life challenges and the unwavering belief that reaching out for help is never a burden.  It was launched by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) in 2024.

For many families, the reality of youth suicide is deeply personal.  Suicide was the second-leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-25 in California between 2018 and 2022.  Never a Bother encourages open conversations, removing stigma, and reaching out to young people to feel heard and supported.

Families navigating developmental disabilities know the importance of tailored mental health support.  Individuals with developmental disabilities may experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, and social isolation.  For parents and caregivers, seeing their child struggle with these challenges can be overwhelming.

If you or someone you love needs support, resources are available.

At its core, Never a Bother is more than a campaign; it is a movement of care, connection, and community.  Whether through peer support, professional help, or simply reaching out to a loved one, the message remains the same: “We see you, we hear you, and most of all, we want to help you to get support for a friend or yourself.”

You are NEVER a bother.
