Amy is one of nearly 30 people taking part in California’s Technology Pilot Program.  For her, the right tools are already making a difference.

Before joining the program, Amy would miss standard emergency alarms because she couldn’t hear them.  Now, flashing light alerts let her know right away if there’s an emergency at home.  She’s also been actively involved in testing and choosing other types of assistive technology to use to meet her goals.  She has shared positive feedback about the tools and how these changes are helping her feel safer and more independent.

Launched in 2022, the Technology Pilot Program explores how remote supports can reduce the need for on-site staff while improving quality of life, safety, and community inclusion.  As the program continues, participants like Amy are helping shape how technology can support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in living the lives they choose.
